His journalistic contributions brilliantly summarise the problems that the democracy in which we have been living since 1978 has been dragging along. Described with absolute precision at the time, with the harshness and forcefulness of someone who witnessed it first-hand. Dramatically, Majorca still suffers today from practically the same problems that were reported ten, twenty or thirty years ago.

Sitjar, for example, announced the crisis of the “Sa Nostra” savings bank or Caixa d’Estalvis de Balears eight years in advance, and explains the reasons for such. Today, as his wisdom sadly shows, the Balearic Islands have lost the savings bank, and no one even batted an eyelid. Throughout his collaborations with the press, Sitjar calls for the writing of society, which today is still numb, dead, full of fear of speaking out.

The collection of these articles is intended to show that most of our social and political problems are not new; we have been dragging them along for decades without paying them any attention and living with them as if they were matters of course.
